Compassworks NNAS Gold Assessment
Course - NNAS Gold Assessment
Compassworks are accredited by the National Navigation Awards Scheme (NNAS) to access and award Bronze, Silver and Gold standards. Please see ‘Our Courses’ for further details.

How long:-   Approximately 4 to 5 hours depending upon route.

 

                        NNAS assessments are arranged as required and when there are enough persons

                        waiting to be assessed. Assessments are usually arranged as a group but individuals

                        can be catered for but at additional cost. Please contact Compassworks to see how

                        we can help you gain NNAS Gold certification.

 

Who for:-      People who wish to gain the NNAS Gold award.  People attending this event would

                        ideally have completed our “Navigator Level 3” course or be at an equivalent standard.

                        Participants would be expected to have navigated over difficult terrain, in varying

                        conditions prior to assessment.  On successful completion, participants will be awarded

                        the NNAS Gold Certificate.

 

What will be covered:-

 

                       Navigation in the countryside using the skills learnt and developed in the Bronze and

                       Silver awards but adding techniques and skills for dealing with complex contour features.

                       The participant will need to demonstrate the application of both map to ground and

                       ground to map techniques, the selection of techniques for each situation and the

                       integration of these into a navigation strategy.  An awareness of the effects of fatigue as

                       well as heat and cold will also be covered.

 

Method:-         Short written / oral test followed by practical assessment.

 

Terrain:-          6 - 10 kilometres over semi rough open moorland.

 

Equipment:-  All navigational equipment can be provided if requested.

                          Participants will need to bring suitable clothing  and footwear for outdoor work.
