Who for:-For people who want to bring life the 2D features of
a flat map and to be able to ’see’ the 3D real world. Relating the map to the ground
can be one of the most difficult skills a navigator can master.
This one day course will provide participants
with a greater appreciation of contours, landforms, and the skills required when
People attending this event would normally have attended our Navigator Level 1 course
or be at the same skill level.
This course is held in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere to encourage maximum learning,
whilst having fun.
What will be covered:-
Interpreting map detail in relation to ground by use of visualisation and sketching.
Practical outdoor contour appreciation and relief interpretation.
Understanding landforms, contours and the effect they have on establishing location
Estimating distance techniques.
Method:- A mixture of indoor and outdoor activities and practical
practical demonstrations, static and mobile
Terrain:-4 - 6 kilometres over semi rough open moorland.
