Designed with professionalism, safety and enjoyment uppermost, most of our high quality courses, which we firmly believe are some of the best events of their kind available anywhere, are based on northern Dartmoor which provides the perfect backdrop for this type of training.
Whether you are an absolute map-reading novice, or you wish to build on your existing knowledge, we can help. Our aim is to enable you to develop the skills necessary for you to navigate safely around some of the most difficult map reading terrain in the UK. The skills and techniques learned on our events can be applied anywhere in the world.
Our range of events can take you from learning under supervision, to 'flying solo' in mist and/or at night. Depending on the skill level you want to achieve, we can get you there. Compassworks' trainers are fully qualified under the South West Mountain and Moorland Leader Training Scheme, and are fully authorised to lead walks in both summer and winter conditions.
If gaining accreditation is of interest to you in furthering your navigation "career", we can also assess you under the National Navigation Award Scheme to Bronze and Silver levels.
We have the ability to design personal activity leisure breaks and corporate team based activities, and have the experience of delivering these for organisations in both the private and public sectors.
In the short time that Compassworks has been trading we have helped over 300 individuals gain more confidence by developing their navigational skills. We have also enabled small groups and teams to enhance their performance at work by the use of the outdoor environment using both traditional map and compass skills as well as newer technologies such as GPS.
We will be delighted to hear from you to discuss your training or leisure break requirements.
Compassworks has been operating in the south west for the last three years, specialising in the provision of map reading and land navigation skills training and development.
It is run by Dave Hawkins, a former Royal Marine Commando and member of the British Mountaineering Council. He has extensive experience of these subjects, having operated in various climates and conditions in the UK and abroad.
