How long:- 3 to 5 hours depending upon route.
NNAS assessments are arranged as required and when there
are enough persons
waiting to be assessed. Assessments are usually arranged
as a group but individuals
can be catered for but at additional cost. Please contact

Who for:- People who wish to gain the NNAS Silver award. People attending this
event would
ideally have completed our “Navigator Level 2” course or
be at an equivalent standard.
On successful completion participants will be awarded the
NNAS Silver Certificate.
What will be covered:-
- A short written / oral assessment which will include topics such as:-
- Plotting and locating 6 & 8 figure grid references.
- Relocation strategies.
- Route cards.
- Obtaining and plotting bearings.
- Route Safety.
- A practical assessment on your ability to navigate a simple line feature course on
open moorland which will include:-
- Uphill and downhill sections.
- Using attack points, aiming off, pacing etc,.
- Using route cards.
- Use of a compass.
- Plotting and using bearings and back bearings.
Method:- Short written / oral test followed by practical assessment.
Terrain:- 5 - 8 kilometres over semi rough open moorland.
Equipment:- All navigational equipment can be provided if requested.
Participants will need to bring suitable clothing and
footwear for outdoor work.
