How long:- Afternoon and evening (1400 - 2200)
Who for:- People who are confident in their ability to navigate accurately
in favourable
daytime conditions, but who need to extend their
skills to navigating in poor
visibility or at night.
This course is held in a friendly and relaxed
atmosphere to encourage maximum
learning, whilst having fun.
What will be covered:-
- The differences between day and night-time/poor visibility navigation.
- Human factors - Sight, Sound, Touch..
- Ability to plan a safe walk.
- Aiming off, attack points, and handrails.
- Use of the Lightweight Compass.
- Spiral and Sweep searching.
- Using the stars as navigational aids.
Method:- Mixture of indoor and outdoor activities and practical exercises.
Terrain:- 7 - 9 kilometres over semi rough open moorland.
Equipment:- All navigational equipment is provided. Participants will need
to bring suitable
clothing for outdoor work. (see
recommended clothing list)
Catering:- Please bring your own packed food and drinks.
